Alyeska Resort in Girdwood Alaska Walking Tour
Hello Walkers,
Our final Alaska walk brings us to Alyeska Resort in Girdwood, just about a 45-minute drive from Anchorage. This ski resort and mountain is famous for its stunning views over the Turnagain Arm, and from the summit you can even watch the Bore Tide roll in—a rare and fascinating natural phenomenon.
Now, I’ll be honest—imaging skiers tackle this mountain is impressive, because there’s no way I could manage slopes this steep. I hear there are gentler runs on another side of the mountain, but the section we’re on today is no joke.
We start at the top of the gondola station, stepping briefly through the dining area before pausing to actually find the start of our trail. From there, it’s a very steep descent down toward the Alyeska Resort Hotel, with light rain adding a bit of drama to the scene. Along the way, the views up the valley are breathtaking, framed by mist and rolling green slopes.
It’s the perfect way to wrap up our Alaska series—one last adventure with sweeping scenery and a leg-burning walk to remember. I hope you enjoy this virtual treadmill journey down the mountain.
