Billings, Montana Virtual 360 Treadmill Walking Tour

Hello Walkers,

On our way home, we decided to pause in Billings, Montana, for a couple of days—and I’m so glad we did. I’d always thought of Billings as just a place to pass through on the interstate, but it turned out to have far more to see and do than I expected. We discovered a great mix of breweries, restaurants, museums, trails, and shopping, plus plenty of indoor activities for when the weather turns. I even carved out a quiet morning to head downtown and take you all along for a walk.

This particular video was filmed in 360, and at the time, I thought it might be my last in that format—too much work for too little return. (EDIT: Thanks to better technology, I’ve been able to bring back some 360 walks again! If you’ve got VR goggles or a headset, check out the VR tab above.)

Billings is more than just the hotels and gas stations you see from the highway. It’s Montana’s largest city, home to over 100,000 people—which is huge by Montana standards. Once dominated by oil and gas, the city’s economy now includes agriculture, tourism, entertainment, and health care. It’s also a financial and convention hub with a branch of Montana State University and a world-class hospital. The downtown area blends history and modern energy, with brick storefronts, public art, and a laid-back urban vibe.

If you’re looking for recommendations, I can’t say enough about The Sassy Biscuit for breakfast—fluffy, indulgent, and worth every bite—and the Last Chance Pub and Cider Mill for dinner, where the food is hearty and the cider is outstanding.

Billings surprised me in all the right ways, and I hope this walk gives you a new perspective on a city that’s so much more than a stopover.
