🇮🇹 Bolzano / Bozen walking tour and Virtual Treadmill Walking Tour in 4K – City Walks

We’re back in Bolzano for this week’s virtual walking tour. As we walk around exploring and discovering, we have to wonder if the city is more like Germany or Austria, or like Italy. It used to belong to Austria-Hungary until after WWI, but has spent the last hundred years as part of Italy. The architecture of the shops and hotels and restaurants definitely lean Germanic. But the spirit of the place seems more Italian to me. Either way, it’s a beautiful, welcoming, bustling city in the Dolomites with great food and surrounded by beautiful nature.

What better place for one of our virtual tours of cities and to burn off the fat from all those cioccolada dense? The Bolzano weather is a bit variable but pleasant. I hope you enjoy this virtual treadmill scenery for your workout or relaxation today. Cheers, Prost, Saluti, and keep on steppin’ -H

Wikipedia: Bolzano [ Austrian German: Bozen] (formerly Botzen); Bavarian: Bozn; Ladin: Balsan or Bulsan) is the capital city of the South Tyrol in northern Italy. It has a population of 108,245. The city of Bolzano / Bozen is also by far the largest city in South Tyrol. The metro area has about 250,000 inhabitants and is one of the major urban centers within the Alps. Bolzano is home to the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano. The university hosts lectures and seminars which are held in English, German, and Italian. The city is also home to the Italian Army’s Alpini High Command (COMALP) and some of its combat and support units. In 2020, Bolzano was ranked joint first for quality of life alongside Bologna. Bolzano won Alpine Town of the Year 2009.

Bolzano is considered a bridge between Northern Europe and Southern Europe due to the three spoken languages in South Tyrol (Italian, German, and Ladin) and the confluence of Italian and German-Austrian culture. According to the 2011 census, 73.80% of the city’s inhabitants spoke Italian, 25.52% German and 0.68% Ladin as their first language.
