Today we’re exploring beautiful Budapest with a free walking tour along the iconic Danube River.
We kick things off by crossing the Széchenyi Chain Bridge—one of the city’s most famous landmarks. It was the first permanent bridge to connect Buda and Pest, and it’s a great place to take in the skyline on both sides of the river. From there, we pass the elegant Four Seasons Hotel, housed in a beautifully restored Art Nouveau palace.
As we stroll north along the riverbank, we’ll visit the haunting yet powerful Shoes on the Danube Bank memorial. It honors the memory of Hungarian Jews who were executed along the river during World War II. Just ahead, you’ll see the striking Hungarian Parliament Building—an architectural masterpiece and one of the largest parliament buildings in the world.
We wrap up by crossing the Margit Bridge, which leads toward Margaret Island, a peaceful green space right in the middle of the river—perfect for walking, cycling, or just escaping the bustle of the city.
