Hello Walkers,
It’s Christmas time, and I’m spending the month traveling around Budapest and the surrounding area—so I’ll be mixing in several European walks over the next few weeks. Don’t worry, I’ll be back with more hikes from Utah and Colorado soon enough. But for now, let’s enjoy a little holiday-season exploring in Hungary!
Today’s virtual walk takes us through downtown Budapest, starting near the impressive Parliament building and following Andrássy Út, one of the city’s grandest boulevards, all the way toward Nyugati Train Station. This route makes for a great treadmill walk or just a relaxed virtual stroll from the comfort of home.
Budapest is a city full of contrasts—rich history, stunning architecture, cozy cafés, and lively neighborhoods. Andrássy Avenue itself is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, lined with elegant buildings, theaters, shops, and embassies. It’s like the Champs-Élysées of Budapest.
Along the way, we pass by several hotels, many of which are great options if you’re planning a visit—some are right in the heart of downtown, others are near the train stations for easy access in and out of the city. Whether you’re here for the history, the holiday markets, the baths, or the ruin pubs, there’s always something going on in Budapest.
