Cullen, Scotland Virtual Treadmill City Walk on Moray Firth
Hello Walkers,
We’ve finally made it to Scotland, and I’m excited to bring you along on this scenic virtual walk as we settle into the peaceful rhythm of life along the Moray Coast. After a brief overnight stay in Edinburgh, we headed north through the Highlands to the coastal county of Moray, nestled along the Moray Firth—a wide bay on Scotland’s northeastern edge.
For our base, we chose the delightful seaside town of Cullen, a former fishing village that has since become a favorite holiday destination for travelers and locals alike. It’s also the birthplace of Cullen Skink—a rich, creamy chowder made with smoked haddock, potatoes, and onions. It might sound unusual, but trust me—it’s absolutely delicious and served at most local restaurants and hotels.
Our accommodation is a cozy little fisherman’s cottage just steps from the beach. The ceilings are low, as you’d expect in a historic stone home, but it’s snug, warm, and perfectly placed for morning walks. And that’s exactly what today’s video captures.
We begin our walk at a small park high above town, where you get a sweeping view of Cullen and its broad, sandy beach nestled between the neighboring villages of Portknockie and Portsoy. (Aren’t those names wonderful?) From there, we wander down into the town’s High Street, with its neat rows of sturdy stone homes and charming little shops.
Next, we make our way along the edge of the cliffs, enjoying sea views and seabird sounds, before descending to the historic harbor, where boats once came in heavy with North Sea catches. We end our walk by a serene little creek flowing beneath an impressive 19th-century railway viaduct, finally spilling out into the sea.
The Moray Coastal Trail offers miles of glorious walking with trails connecting one village to the next. Whether you’re here to hike, unwind, or just enjoy a virtual escape, the combination of history, scenery, and quiet charm makes this area truly special.
