View of the Dolomites above Rifugio Fuciade

You can’t beat the the views in the Dolomites

Dolomites Hike! Alta Via 2 Trek Italy – City Walks 4K – Walk at Home Virtual Treadmill Walking Tour

This walking video is of our last day on the Alta Via 2 (but not our last walking tour in the Dolomites in Italy). I take you on the descent to Rifugio Fuciade just above Passo San Pellegrino. I didn’t film the uphill section because i figured you wouldn’t want to hear my huffing and puffing. If I had, I could have shown you some remnants of World War 1 fortifications.

I’m not sure how much the beautiful weather contributed to my impressions, but this walk made me so happy with it’s incredible beauty and awe inspiring views. The world was a wonderful place that day. The green grass and blue skies made the walk down lovely and we end up at one of the most beautiful rifugios so far. It’ would top my list except for how busy and popular it was that day. It’s very accessible via a well manicured and paved path from the pass below without too much uphill. You can get a quick meal prepared in the Ladin tradition and even get a room for the night (if you call ahead). Fuciade is located in the fossa valley and is surrounded by the Costabella group of peaks. We also see some donkeys which brings a smile to the face. There’s something about them that just makes me smile.

Walking the AV2 includes a stop at Rifugio Fuciade, at least the first half..

If you enjoy these treadmill workouts for weight loss and walking exercise, please share them with your friends. I love helping people walk at home or the gym without the monotony that sometimes comes with treadmill walking. I feel like watching these walks make cardio workouts go much more quickly.

Walk at home through the Dolomites on our Italy Walking tours series!  Cheers and keep on steppin’ -H

Donkeys below the Dolomites
Donkeys are a fun site as you descend to Rifguio Fuciade

The Rifugio Fuciade is a beautiful little mountain inn and restaurant sited on the shoulder of Passo San Pellegrino. It is only an easy 45-minute hike from a car parking lot, and right next to the ski slopes! The ample wood terrace offers wonderful views of Pale di San Martino. Built in the early 1960s, refurbished and expanded in 1983, it accommodates just 20 guests. The real highlight here is the restaurant, with delicious local specialties and an evocative cellar. From Bookatrekking’s website: The Alta Via 2 is one of the 6 famous Alta Via treks in the Italian Dolomites. If you are looking for your next challenge, the Alta Via 2 is the perfect match. This trek is full of adrenaline and only suitable for experienced trekkers with surefootedness, experience in the mountains, and a head for heights.

The Alta Via 2 includes sharp ridges, Via Ferratas, and steep slopes. Are you brave enough to face it? The entire Alta Via 2 can be completed in 11 to 14 days. This 7-day option covers the first somewhat less-technical half of the Alta Via 2, from Brixen / Bressanone to San Pellegrino. Don’t be mistaken, the trek still offers challenging trails, the possibility of conquering Via Ferratas and accommodation in the best Italian mountains huts. Don’t forget to soak up the views and the fantastic Northern Italian cuisine.
