Today’s virtual treadmill walk takes us through the enchanting alpine village of Kastelruth, also known as Castelrotto. Nestled high in the mountains, this charming little town welcomes us with clear autumn skies, golden leaves, and crisp mountain air—a perfect day for wandering its cobbled lanes and scenic paths.

Looking back at Kastelruth, the town

Kastelruth is perched just a short drive from Ortisei and Bolzano, yet it feels worlds away. The winding alpine road that leads here makes the town feel secluded and timeless, like a place lifted from the pages of a fairy tale. We begin our walk at the bus station, then make our way up to the remnants of the old castle that gives the town its name. From there, we wander back down into the historic town center, where pastel-colored buildings, quiet courtyards, and ornate churches create a picture-perfect setting.
