Walk to a beautiful view of Grand Prismatic in Yellowstone National Park. This trail is very accessible and a short walk to the overlook. The view from the top is well worth the short climb. Just take your time. The boardwalk around the hot spring is definitely worth a walk too. Parking can be a bit tough too so it’s best to go early or late.

Yellowstone Walks – Walking Fairy Falls to Grand Prismatic Virtual Walking Tour

Another Yellowstone hike for you today in our video 4K City Walks library of virtual walking tours. The smokey skies are from the fires in California and a smaller one nearby. This virtual walk is actually split into two sections. We start off at Fairy Falls trailhead and head over towards the Grand Prismatic lookout. We don’t actually go to Fairy Falls but we do get a great overlook of flats around Grand Prismatic. From here you can see the stunning colors of the hot spring. We descend down back to the trail and switch over to the grand prismatic boardwalk were we cross the Firehole River and get a closeup view of Grand Prismatic and several other geysers. The steam and smoke create a haze but it’s part of the glory.

The Grand Prismatic Spring, often just referred to as Grand Prismatic, in Yellowstone National Park is the largest hot spring in the United States. It’s also the third largest in the world, after Frying Pan Lake in New Zealand and Boiling Lake in Dominica. You can find it in the Midway Geyser Basin.

Geologists working in the Hayden Geological Survey of 1871, first described Grand Prismatic Spring and named by them for its striking coloration. Its colors match most of those seen in the rainbow dispersion of white light by an optical prism: red, orange, yellow, green, and blue.
