Golden Colorado Walking Tour
Hello Walkers,
Today’s walk takes us to Golden, Colorado, a town that blends history, education, industry, and natural beauty all into one inviting package. Golden is most famously home to the Coors Brewing Company, and the scale of the brewery here is truly massive—one of the largest in the world. But while beer may have put Golden on the map for many people, there’s so much more to this town than its brewing legacy.
Golden sits nestled at the base of the Rocky Mountain foothills, just a short drive west of Denver, yet it feels worlds apart from the big city. The town has a small, historic main street lined with shops, restaurants, and brick buildings that echo back to its frontier and mining heritage. It’s also home to the Colorado School of Mines, a prestigious engineering and applied sciences university that has shaped much of the town’s identity.
On this walk, we start in the heart of downtown Golden, where the mix of historic charm and lively community energy really stands out. From there, we head uphill toward the School of Mines campus, passing through a residential neighborhood filled with older homes, each with its own character and story to tell. The views from this part of town are wonderful—mountains rise up around Golden, framing it in a way that makes you feel both tucked in and wide open at the same time.
We finish up the walk down by Clear Creek, the stream that winds right through the center of town. It’s a beautiful stretch of water, often filled with kayakers, tubers, and families enjoying the riverside trails in warmer months. Even on a quieter day, it’s easy to see why locals love it here. The creek gives Golden a refreshing natural heart, and it really ties the whole place together.
I’ve wanted to visit Golden for years, and now that I’ve finally made it, I have to say—I’m impressed. The mix of history, scenery, and community makes it one of those towns that feels both welcoming and worth exploring again.
