Hello Walkers,
Today’s treadmill travel walking video takes you on a relaxing and scenic stroll through Helsinki, the capital of Finland, on a beautiful summer evening. The northern light lingers late into the day here, casting a soft golden hue over this clean, welcoming, and architecturally striking city. I had such a good time walking these streets, and I’m excited to share it with you.
We begin our walk in Esplanadi Park, a green, elegant promenade that stretches right through the heart of the city. Locals and visitors alike gather here to relax on benches, enjoy street performances, or sip a drink at a nearby café. From there, we make our way down to the South Harbor, where ferries glide across the shimmering Baltic Sea and market stalls buzz with life.
Our path then climbs slightly to the Uspenski Cathedral, an eye-catching Eastern Orthodox church built in red brick with gleaming golden domes. It sits perched above the harbor and offers great views of the waterfront. After taking in the cathedral, we wander through the Kruununhaka neighborhood, one of the oldest parts of the city, full of classic Finnish architecture and quiet residential charm.
Next, we head toward the iconic Senate Square, home to the grand white Helsinki Cathedral and framed by neoclassical buildings. This is truly the heart of Helsinki’s historic district and a must-see for anyone visiting. Finally, our walk winds down at the Helsinki Central Train Station, known for its striking granite façade and art deco design. It’s both a beautiful landmark and a hub for travel throughout the country.
Helsinki surprised me in all the best ways. While it has a reputation for being expensive (and yes, a cup of coffee might cost you more than usual), it also offers a warm and very livable atmosphere. The weather was perfect—mild and breezy—and there was a fantastic selection of restaurants, ice cream stands, and cafés, from high-end to budget-friendly. And while Finns have a cultural reputation for being a bit reserved, I found everyone friendly, helpful, and genuinely welcoming.
There’s so much more to explore in Helsinki—museums, saunas, islands, and design shops—and this short visit left me wanting more. It’s the kind of place that makes you say, “We have to come back.” And I hope we do.
