Today we’re heading out for a virtual June walk up the lower portion of Livingston Peak Road just outside of Livingston, Montana. Early summer has arrived, the days are long, and the foothills above town are starting to turn a vibrant green. June is a perfect time for this walk—cool enough to be comfortable, with warm sunshine and wide-open views in every direction.
We begin at the bottom of Livingston Peak Road, where the pavement gives way to gravel and the town quickly fades behind us. As we climb gently upward, the views back over Livingston and the Yellowstone River valley open wide. Sagebrush and grasses line the road, wildflowers dot the hillsides, and the Absaroka Mountains rise dramatically to the south and east. It’s a steady uphill that gets the heart rate up without feeling rushed—ideal for a controlled treadmill pace.
