Today’s Virtual Treadmill Scenery Walk is a special one—filmed by request for viewer John W. Davis, who asked to see more trains. So, we’re heading into the historic rail yards of Livingston, Montana, a town with deep roots in the railroad industry.
Livingston has long been tied to the rail lines. It was a critical hub during the golden age of train travel and freight in the West, especially as a gateway to Yellowstone National Park. The legacy of those days still echoes in the massive rail yard infrastructure, old depots, and the unmistakable sound of freight engines rolling through town.
On this walk, we take you on a loop through the lesser-seen industrial and working areas near the tracks—giving you a more local and grounded view of Livingston beyond the tourist spots. You’ll see the roundhouse, some historic rail buildings, parked freight cars, and maybe even catch a train or two passing by if the timing is right.
It’s a stunning Montana day—bright skies and crisp air—but the wind is fierce, so you’ll hear a bit of that in the audio. Still, it adds to the immersive feel of being right there with me, pushing through the gusts as we explore.
This isn’t the polished, postcard side of Livingston. It’s the working heartbeat of the town, and I really enjoy showing you these corners that most visitors don’t see. The mix of big sky, old steel, and rail-side grit makes for a compelling walk.
