Exploring the Scottish Capital: Edinburgh, Scotland – Historic City Center, Royal Mile

Hello Walkers,
This was my very first City Walks upload. We’ve come a long way since then, literally and figuratively.

This virtual walk through Edinburgh takes us along the famous Royal Mile and up to the panoramic views from Calton Hill—but it also marks one of my early outings as a walking filmmaker. I filmed this walk using an old iPhone 6s, mounted on a Lanparte gimbal, and paired with a basic wide-angle lens adapter. It wasn’t the fanciest setup, but it got the job done.

I had a bit of a cold that day and, as you’ll probably notice, I was sniffling more than a little. A kind viewer quickly pointed out the obvious: carry a handkerchief next time! It was one of the first of many valuable lessons I’ve picked up along the way. It’s funny to look back now at how much I’ve learned since those early walks—about gear, filming, editing, and even what to pack for a day out walking.

Despite the sniffles, it was an amazing experience exploring such a historic and iconic part of Scotland’s capital.

The Royal Mile, lined with centuries-old buildings and street performers, always offers something to discover, and Calton Hill never fails to impress with its sweeping views over the city and the Firth of Forth.
