Redondo Beach, California 03 – During Lockdown
Hello Walkers,
TravelingMel is back with another beautiful virtual walk—this time adding some California sunshine (and a bit of ocean fog) to the mix. We’re heading to Redondo Beach during the lockdown, a time when many of us were looking for new ways to stay active without leaving home. If you’ve been walking in place on your treadmill, pacing your living room, or just wishing for a change of scenery, this one’s for you.
In this walk, Mel takes us through quiet neighborhoods where flowers are in full bloom—and she can’t resist stopping to film them. Bright bursts of color spill over fences and garden beds, giving the streets a cheerful, almost tropical feel. Tall, classic palm trees stand like sentinels along the neighborhood roads, swaying gently in the coastal breeze.
Eventually, Mel crosses the Pacific Coast Highway and heads toward the fog-shrouded beach. Even though the beaches were closed at the time, we still get glimpses of the sand, the ocean air rolling in, and the unique architecture of the beach houses. It’s one of those perfect Southern California days—bright yet misty, calm yet alive with movement.
And despite the restrictions of the moment, there’s a sense of community here. We pass a few neighbors out walking their dogs, enjoying the same simple pleasure of fresh air and open space.
