Hello Walkers,

Today we’re heading out for a virtual March afternoon walk through Gardiner, Montana, where winter is slowly loosening its grip and the first hints of spring begin to show along the edge of Yellowstone country. The sun is bright in the western sky, the air is crisp but comfortable, and the small gateway town has a relaxed, early-season feel.

We begin our walk near the famous entrance to Yellowstone National Park, where the iconic Roosevelt Arch stands proudly at the north entrance. In the afternoon sunlight, the stone arch casts long shadows across the road while visitors stop for photos before heading into the park. Even in March, there’s a sense of adventure in the air — this is the doorway to one of the wildest places in America.

As we stroll along the streets of Gardiner, patches of snow still linger along the edges of sidewalks, but much of the ground is clear thanks to the warming sun. The nearby Yellowstone River flows steadily past town, its dark current cutting through the late-winter landscape. Occasionally you might hear the distant rush of water echoing off the canyon walls.

March afternoons here feel transitional. Some businesses are preparing for the busy summer season, while locals enjoy the quieter pace before tourism returns in full force. A few people are out walking dogs or running errands, and the golden afternoon light adds warmth to the rustic storefronts and mountain views surrounding the town.

The terrain is mostly flat and easy, making this a smooth and comfortable treadmill walk. The big sky overhead, the surrounding mountains, and the steady river nearby create a calm, refreshing atmosphere — the perfect combination of nature and small-town Montana life.
