City Walks: San Pedro Belize on Ambergris Caye on sunny morning

Join me on a bright and sunny morning walk through the lively little town of San Pedro, Belize, located on the beautiful island of Ambergris Caye. The turquoise water surrounding the island is absolutely stunning, and the laid-back Caribbean vibe is hard to beat. What really stood out, though, was how warm and friendly the people were—everywhere I went, there were smiles and easy conversation.
This walk took place over Easter weekend, so things were a bit busier than usual, with more locals and visitors out enjoying the holiday. Even with the extra crowd, the town has a kind of organized chaos that just works. It might seem a little hectic at first glance, but there’s an easy rhythm to life here. Most folks get around by foot, bicycle, or golf cart, and somehow it all flows naturally.
As we make our way through town, we pass by a few key landmarks—including the local airport, which sits right in the middle of San Pedro, and several water taxi terminals that connect the island to the mainland and nearby cayes. San Pedro is the only town on Ambergris Caye, and it serves as the hub of activity for both locals and visitors.
We start our walk north of the bridge, where the landscape shifts to quieter stretches with private homes, beachfront villas, and a scattering of resorts. If you ever visit, I highly recommend making the trip up to Secret Beach—it’s a bit of a bumpy ride, but the crystal-clear water and relaxed atmosphere are more than worth it.
