Thermopolis Wyoming Downtown – City Walks 360 – Summer Virtual Walking Tour

This VR walk is the first 30 minutes of our city walking tour through downtown Thermopolis, WY. This is a city known for its hot springs state park and dinosaur museum. It has a great history and charming downtown area. It’s not far, by Wyoming terms, from Cody and Lander.

Thermopolis is the county seat and largest town in Hot Springs County, Wyoming, United States. It sort of sits in the west central part of the state. In 2020, the town had a population of 2,725.

Thermopolis is Greek for “hot city.” It is home to numerous natural hot springs, in which mineral-laden waters are heated by geothermally. The town gets its name, unsurprisingly, from these hot springs.

The town claims to have the world’s largest mineral hot spring, appropriately named “The Big Spring” which is part of Hot Springs State Park. The springs are open to the public for free as part of an 1896 treaty signed with the Shoshone and Arapaho Indian tribes.

Dinosaur fossils were found on the Warm Springs Ranch in 1993, and the Wyoming Dinosaur Center was founded soon after.
