Basel, Switzerland Summer Virtual Walking Tour – 4k Videos for Treadmill City Walks
We rolled into the last stop of our bike tour outside Basel. The official end is the middle of a bridge over the Rhine River. Not the end of the EV6 but the end of France. We got ourselves a treat, took a few photos and rode through Basel in search of our Hotel. We ran into a ton of crowds in the city but it all worked out in the end. We checked into our hotel and headed back out. While Anders explored the Kuntsmuseum on his own, I decided to film another virtual tour around Switzerland’s third most populous city and a its cultural capital. As such, I start out near the museum (Art Museum) and head into the old center.
The city still thrums with people out and about enjoying the summer weather. I climb a small hill and it quiets down rapidly for a bit. The old germanic building style shows everywhere here. I head back down some stairs and quickly find the crowds again. We walk past elegant hotels (see end of post) and cafes and shops. Eventually, I land in the market square in front of the red stone Rathaus, or townhall where I am engaged in conversation with a man trying to give me religious literature but I really just want to talk about his bike tour hat. Don’t worry, I stopped the camera for a bit there.
I then take you across the Mittlere Brücke stone bridge. We get a great view of the Rhine flowing beneath and then find crowded cafés along the river. It’s such a beautiful, enjoyable summer evening to be out. Everyone seems cheerful and happy and we also get a good lock back at the old town and the spires of the cathedral where we head next.
I cross back over the Rhine and find my way into the courtyard for the Basler Münster. A massive but peaceful protestant church. They don’t allow traffic back here and it seems so serene with the trees and gravel. I walk through a cloister and make my way out to a nice view back over the Rhine. We had a wonderful, short time in Basel. We headed out the next day for Colmar and Strasbourg. I hope you enjoyed our Virtual City Walks. See below for more walking tours in France and Switzerland.
