We take you on a loop through the little alpine village of Wengen where we lived for a month. If you are wondering what Wengen, Switzerland is like or if it’s worth going to Wengen, the short answer is AMAZING and YES! Though it IS expensive, as is all of Switzerland, it’s so special. The views are magical, the streets are quiet, and the walks are accessible and so worth it.

Walking Wengen Switzerland above Lauterbrunnen – Virtual Walk Walking Treadmill Video

This treadmill walking scenery video explores the little special alpine village of Wengen, Switzerland.
We’ve spent a month in the Jungfrau Region of Switzerland in the Berner Obermeyer region of the south. What is special about Wengen, Switzerland? It’s so beautiful! We made the little alpine town of Wengen which sits above Wengen Lauterbrunnen  and below the towering Eiger and Jungfrau peaks our home base for the month.

How do you get to Wengen, Switzerland? It’s actually easy. Take a regular train from Interlaken to Lauterbrunnen. Getting from Lauterbrunnen to Wengen is done solely by foot and by cog railway (maybe by bike if you are tough, or e-bike if you are modern). We chose the railway.

But to go from Wengen to Interlaken, you can take a proper train from Lauterbrunnen. The famous town of Grindlewald, Switzerland lies on the other side of the ridge in a neighboring valley. Our calves are now made of steel. Seriously though, the views of this place will blow your mind and the town acts as both tourist hub and quiet little burgh. Accessible by train and with plenty of hotels and vacation rentals, we mostly had sunny days with a few days of pouring rain for weather in Wengen Lauterbrunnen.

Children parading in Wengen Switzerland with lanterns
Not shown in this video but we got to take part in the children’s lantern parade. The Cow Parade is later in the year. So fun!

Wengen has only about 1500 year round residents but that swells to 5000 in the summer and all the way up to 10K in the winter. So, you can imagine the number of fellow tourists. It’s so worth it though. They have incredible hiking and skiing and it’s all easily accessible. The Wengen Ski Resort is great for hiking in summer too. And the views alone blow the mind.

To get from Wengen up to Männlichen, simply take the gondola from town.

Even though it’s small, it makes for a great place for walking with lots of accessible trails and gondolas to get to them. Walking in Switzerland is so easy in terms of signage and accessibility. Even though Wengen (and all of Switzerland) is expensive to visit, we economized by shopping at grocery stores and making dinner in our vacation rental. And Wengen is still worth going to, based on our wonderful experience. There are lots of fun things to do in Wengen and the town itself is worth a wander so I filmed this one morning. I hope you enjoy it. -Henry

A quick list of Things to do in Wengen includes: taking the gondola up to Männlichen, taking the train up to Klein Scheidegg, day trips to Grindlewald, Lauterbrunnen, and Interlaaken, and watching a Alpenhorn Concert at the church, and just having a drink and soaking in the views.
