A Brief History of Gardiner, MT
Nestled at the northern gateway of Yellowstone National Park, Gardiner has a rich history dating back to the late 19th century. Established as the main entrance to the world’s first national park, the town became a hub for travelers eager to explore Yellowstone’s geysers, wildlife, and stunning landscapes. The famous Roosevelt Arch, dedicated by President Theodore Roosevelt in 1903, still stands as a symbol of adventure and preservation. I’ll take you up close for a better look.

Originally a frontier outpost, Gardiner grew into a thriving community catering to park visitors, ranchers, and outdoor enthusiasts. Today, it remains a quaint yet bustling town with deep ties to conservation and tourism.
Our Route
Today I start our walk out by crossing the bridge over the Yellowstone River to the South side / Park side. I’ll wend us through the residential area over there and then back up by the high school and the Roosevelt Arch. We’ll head over to confluence park and then back over the bridge to explore the North side.
